In order to increase the amperage to 250 kA, experiences fromHydro Aluminium [3,4 and 7] were used in design and operation of 10 booster pots. Other companies have reported similar improvements to increase amperage [2 and 8].
Some anode improvements for increased amperage wereperformed:
• Four anode stubs per anode, unchanged stub size
• Increased anode size, 1510x710x585 mm
• Plates added to the anode beam for longer anodes
• Adjustment of side panels (new anode stem position)
• Slotted anodes were introduced from 2005
• Anode size was later increased further
Only some small investments were necessary in the anode plant todo the anode improvements.
With the bigger anodes it was possible to have 30 days anode cycle. One anode was changed daily for each pot. This was important for the operational stability of the pots.
The cathode lining was also improved, and the following changes were made during relining:
• SiC slabs in the side lining
• Graphitized cathode blocks
• Reduced collector bar height
